How to use Google Lens in Google Photos
Table of contents:
Google Lens is a new feature integrated into the Google Photos application that gives us more information about everything in photography. Imagine you have a photo of a dog and you want to know the breed: Google Lens tells you; the image of a monument: Google Lens tells you what it is. In addition, it detects text in images (you can photograph a business card and then look up the name to see who owns the card), identifies works of art and movies, records and books by the cover or poster.
At first, Google Lens was available only for Pixel terminals but, as of today, it is available for all Android terminals, regardless of their brand. Of course, it is only available in English. If you want to try it and you don't know if you already have it available, keep reading.
Activate Google Lens in Google Photos
The first thing we have to do to be able to have Google Lens in the Google Photos application is to change the language of the phone to English. To do this, we enter the settings menu and look for something related to 'Language preferences' Each personalized version of Android will show it in a way. Once inside, click on 'Languages' and place English as the first language, above Spanish. We just have to hold down the language bar to place it in the first place.
You will then see how your phone automatically switches to English. Now, we proceed to open the Google Photos application. To see if we have Google Lens activated, we proceed to open any photo. The following icon should appear:
When you click on that icon, Google Lens will start scanning the image and then throw you information about it. As we said, it can be a painting, to find out the author, a movie, to find out the title, or a dog, and thus find out its breed. Let's say Google Lens is like a Shazam of images
Results to improve in Google Lens
Keep in mind that this version of Google Lens is still in its infancy. In the different tests that we have done, there have been times when it has not been able to identify what appeared in the image or it has given an unexpected result. As you can see in the screenshot above, once you click on the Google Lens icon, the application starts scanning and, on the next screen, the results appearLet's see another example in which, this time, it worked perfectly.
We have also decided to do the test with a couple of books and the results have been uneven: one of them has detected it perfectly and the other has not even been able to identify what it was about what was there in the image. Below are screenshots of Google Lens results when identify two books
How about text and URL? Well, the results have surprised us for good. On the one hand, we have taken a photo of the telephone numbers of a well-known bank and has detected it perfectly In turn, we have photographed the image of our web and has also been able to detect it correctly. So we can see it below:
