Rainbrow
Table of contents:
We've already talked before about how facial recognition promises to become the new standard for unlocking phones in 2018. Now, through MacRumors, we know other possibilities that can be given to this technology.
Rainbrow is a game for iPhone X that aims to take advantage of Face ID for a more playful use than normal. Created by an American student, the game has a unique feature: controlled by moving your eyebrows.
Functioning
In this horny demo we see how the game is played. On the screen we see a band of colors, in which an emoticon (which is us) has to be able to jump from color to color in order to get the most stars possible.
On the way, various obstacles can thwart your goal, so you have to be agile. Agile with the keyboard? No, nimble with our eyebrows. If we want to go up on the screen, we'll have to raise our eyebrows, and if we want to go down, we'll have to frown. If we don't want to move, we'll stay calm, with a poker face.
Pros and cons
The idea, of course, is brilliant, a very ingenious way to take advantage of this technology. However, it does seem to raise some issues, such as the potential tiredness that our facial muscles can feel after moving our eyebrows like this for a while.
Another possible inconvenience is in the involuntary gestures we make with our face If we are happy for getting it right or upset for failing, that is it will notice in our expression, and it can affect us in the result of the game. Finally, it is a reality that many people are not able to control their eyebrow movements well, which leaves them in a clear inferiority of conditions.
The future of mobile games?
We'll see if this funny experiment developed by Nathan Gitter goes further or remains exceptional The door is open to a new series of games that promise an experience different from the one we know today. While that happens, Rainbowbrow is now available free on the App Store, although it can only be used by those who have the iPhone X.
