The most popular apps of 2017 for iPhone
Table of contents:
The iPhone App Store has made a compilation with the most popular apps of this 2017. The list amounts to 20 names, excludes games and is divided between free apps and payment We are going to focus on analyzing the former. In the selection we found few surprises, although there are additions to the list that do explain some pattern changes in the recent behavior of Apple users.
The essentials
The reigning iPhone app is WhatsApp, immediately followed by Instagram.Together they have more than 2,000 million active mobile users, and hardly anyone will move from that throne. Other products owned by Facebook are part of the list, such as the social network's own app at number 5, and its Messenger at number 6.
There is hardly any competition for the Zuckerberg empire. Telegram doesn't even appear on the list, Twitter trails behind, at number 19, and only Snapchat resists the onslaught, holding on to a very decent number 9 spot.
New business models
This list has also made it clear that some new consumption patterns are here to stay. The drive for streaming is evident when we find Spotify at number 8, and Netflix at number 11.
Online purchases, for their part, are quite well reflected in this list. Amazon at number 12, Aliexpress at number 14 and Wish at number 20 are an important example of the fact that we are increasingly using mobile phones to purchase products of different kinds.
Wallapop, at number 7, continues in the same pattern, adding the nuance of second hand, and McDonald's, at number 16, also confirms that food delivery via mobile makes its way among consumers. Surprising, yes, not to find Just Eat, Deliveroo or any other equivalent app.
Lots of Google on iPhone
Tim Cook and his team can't be overjoyed to see a lot of Google apps succeeding on their system, especially when they have others doing the same job. Google Maps at 4 is worrying competition to your Maps, and Google Drive at 13 calls into question iCloud. Lastly, Chrome in 17 seems to make Safari a bit ugly.
Do not forget that certain Google apps have no competition, neither from Facebook nor from Apple. YouTube is at number 3 (still the Internet newspaper library) and Gmail at 10.

Thus, 2017 has left us some clear trends in mobile use: the big messaging and social network apps are the same, but theusers are betting more and more for online purchases, both first-hand and second-hand products, as well as food. The iPhone user uses iOS, but does not depend 100 percent on its products, relying on Google for certain basic services.
Although iPhone only represents a variable portion of the total consumption of telephones (in Spain it does not reach 10% market share, in Europe is close to 20% and in the US it is over 30%), it is still very interesting to know the trends in a system with as much influence as iOS. Now we have to know the Play Store list in order to have a complete vision of the sector.
