Table of contents:
The FAQ section of the official WhatsApp page has already been updated, adding questions concerning the long-awaited function of deleting messages. A function that may be behind the numerous system crashes that the instant messaging application has suffered. This just means that the ability to delete messages we've already sent will drop in the next few updates.
The 'Delete messages' function is divided, according to WhatsApp, into two different versions: 'Delete messages for everyone' and 'Delete messages for you'.Let's go by parts.
How to delete messages for everyone on WhatsApp
With this function you can delete a message that you have sent to a specific group or user by mistake. Or, simply, you have regretted having sent it. How many times have we accidentally sent a message to a group and the apocalypse could have been prevented with a simple gesture? It's a pity that WhatsApp has decided that the deleted message will continue to leave its mark, we don't know if it was due to the impossibility of keeping the gap that it filled in said message empty. Now, when we delete a message, the interlocutor will not read the deleted message, but yes another one that will serve as an informer 'This message was deleted', this is how the statement will read will be read by users instead of the message you sent. Will this arouse any more suspicion than simply reading the original message, no matter how wrong it was?
Messages to everyone can only be deleted within the first seven minutes of sending. Once those seven minutes have elapsed, the sent text will have been sent forever and it will be impossible to revoke it. To delete any message, just proceed as follows:
- Open the WhatsApp application and go to the message you want to permanently delete.
- Hold that message pressed for a few seconds. If you want to delete more than one message, when you see that the first one has been highlighted, you can proceed with the rest by clicking on them.
- At the top of the application a menu will appear, in which you must press the trash can icon. Tap 'Delete All' to delete all selected messages and prevent them from being read.
- For the deletion of the message to take effect, both you and the recipient must have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on the phone . That is to say: if your friend has an old version of the application, no matter how much you delete the message, he will continue to see it on his phone.
- Recipients may be able to read the message before you've deleted it, or if it somehow couldn't be deleted successfully.
- WhatsApp will not notify you if a message could not be deleted successfully.
How to delete messages for yourself on WhatsApp
With this system, you will simply delete messages that you have received or sent from your phone, but the other party will still see them. To delete messages from this mode, follow the instructions below:
- Open WhatsApp and go to the chat where the message to delete is located
- Hold down the message. Once selected, you can choose as many as you want.
- Press the trash can icon and click on 'Delete for me'.
No doubt, this function of deleting messages is eagerly awaited by many WhatsApp users. The confusion in sending messages can put more than one person in a bind. But WhatsApp doesn't want us to get away unscathed either: the recipient will know that something has gone wrong with the sending of the message. Could it have been impossible for WhatsApp to simply delete the message without notifying the other person of what we just did?
