Google Maps now works in multi-window on Android
Table of contents:
One of the most attractive functions that we have available in the Android 7 Nougat version is multi-window. With it, the screen of our device is divided in two horizontally, leaving spaces above and below for the apps. For example, we can browse the Internet while watching a YouTube video. The only disadvantage of this attractive feature is that there are certain applications that do not adapt to multi-window mode. Even until yesterday, an application as widely used as Google Maps stopped being functional when we tried to use it together with, for example, WhatsApp.Today, Google Maps already supports multi-window.
Navigate through Google Maps while chatting on WhatsApp
The Google Maps update that supports multi-window mode is 9.58.2. In previous versions, multi-window mode was impossible for apps like Google Maps. Precisely, a really useful function in an application of such characteristics. However, as we have been able to verify ourselves, the multi-window mode works perfectly with Google Maps. While we talk on WhatsApp, the map places us, live, in the place where we are. No losses or interference of any kind. Although Google Maps is an application that continues to work in the background, it doesn't hurt to have the map at hand and always visible. It may be the case, for example, that you are talking to someone about a route. In this situation, being able to see the map while speaking is very useful.
How multi-window works in Android 7 Nougat
Complementary to the Picture in Picture function that is about to arrive in Android 8 Oreo, multi-window can be a very useful function for all those users who cannot stop using several applications at the same time. If your phone has Android 7 Nougat and you still don't know how multi-window works, we leave you with a simple tutorial that will clarify all your ideas. It is a very simple procedure from which you can get many advantages. Let's start.
- First, we must make sure that our mobile phone has at least the Android 7 Nougat version. Multiscreen only works from this version of Android. To make sure of the version you have on your mobile, look in 'Settings' and then 'About phone'
- Once you have verified that you have at least Android 7 Nougat, proceed as follows:
- We press the multitasking button. Multitasking is that screen where we see all the applications that we have open and that we can see them as if it were a gallery. We choose, in this case Google Maps, and leave it pressed. You will see a caption at the top of the phone: 'Drag here to use split screen' Drag the window up and release.
At that moment, the mobile screen will have been divided in two. Now all that remains is to choose the application that will remain at the bottom. For example, Spotify. Now, while navigating a map you can listen to your favorite music.
