Duolingo will teach the Valyrian language of Game of Thrones

Taking advantage of the premiere of the seventh season of Game of Thrones, Duolingo wanted to nod to the series by including high Valyrian in its application.

The company has announced that as of July 16 the course of High Valyrian as a language within Duolingo will be finished. This is the language spoken by Daenerys Targaryen.

The course will be available for English speakers and there is no final publication date yet.

From the 16th we can learn Valyrian in Duolingo

The developers have been quite a few months working on this feature, and now July 16th has finally been confirmed as the official date.

The Duolingo community has been supported by David J. Peterson, creator and language specialist. The company announced the news accompanied by a message from Peterson: "The Valyrian is coming."

It is striking that Duolingo has chosen this language for its platform. Although it will be quite popular among Game of Thrones fans, the tall Valyrian actually has little presence in the story.

In fact, Daenerys is one of the last Targaryens and the only character to use the High Valyrian dialect in the series. Other Game of Thrones characters speak Valyrian but in more informal versions or in other dialects.

The origin of High Valyrian that we can learn in Duolingo

The High Valyrian language is the result of the imagination of Peterson, who created the language from scratch using the only two phrases that appear in the Game of Thrones books.

There are currently many dictionaries available, but the Duolingo platform will be the first to offer a complete course in High Valyrian.

The course is still in the development phase, as explained in the platform's incubator. We will have to wait still to find out the final release date.
