How to hide WhatsApp chats without deleting them
Table of contents:
If we have an active social life on our phone, we will surely have an endless history of WhatsApp chats, which can become a nuisanceAlso, since WhatsApp does not yet have an option to "pin" chats to the top of the history to highlight them, we have to search for them in chronological order.
What can we do in those cases? We have the possibility of archiving chats, to hide them but not lose them.By doing this, the chat will still be saved, it just won't appear in the main menu. Let's see how to do it and undo it, both for iPhone and Android.
Archiving WhatsApp chats
If what we want is to archive the chat on iPhone, we must go to the chat we want to archive and slide your finger slightly to the left When doing so, a More option and another Archive will appear, which we must mark. We can also slide our finger all the way to the left and the file will be archived automatically.
Let's now see how to do it on Android phones. WhatsApp for this operating system has a quite different interface. The procedure is also different: we have to press on the chat until a menu appears in the upper cornerAmong the options in that menu is the archive symbol. By marking it, the chat disappears from the history.
If we wanted to archive all our chats on an iPhone, we can do so by going to Settings<Chats<Archive all chats. A measure perhaps a bit radical, but there you have it available. Also in Android we can archive all the chats if we want to do it. We have to go to Settings<Chats<Chat history<Archive all chats And that's it.
Where to find archived chats?
Let's see where to find those chats if we have an iPhone. Going to the search engine at the top and writing the name of the contact whose chat we have archived, we will recover it We can see how the word “archived” appears on the side, to notify us of the status of that chat.Once we click on it, we will return to the conversation. Of course, when we leave, the chat will still not appear in the conversation history.
On Android, we can find archived conversations in the same way as on iPhone, but there is also a second way. At the end of all the chat history we find a link that puts Archived Chats, and the number of chats that are in that state in brackets. Clicking there, we enter a menu where we have all those chats in a list.
Unarchive a chat in WhatsApp for iPhone and Android, respectively.Unarchiving
Let's see how to unarchive those chats and have them back in our conversation history On iPhone, the procedure is the same as when We have consulted the chat before. We go to the search engine at the top, write the name of the contact and the chat will appear in a small window.
At that moment, we can drag our finger to the left a bit and the More and Unarchive options will appear Pressing the second or ending dragging your finger to the left will make us recover the chat. Once unarchived, the chat returns to the same position in the history it had before, that is, chronological.
And now in the Android version. In Android we have two ways to unarchive: through the archived chats menu or through the search engine In the first way, we just have to keep our finger pressed on the chat that we want to unarchive, and a menu will appear, the same as when we archived it. The only difference is that the archive icon (with a down arrow) is replaced by an unarchive icon (with an up arrow). Press it, and the chat will return to its place in the history.
The other option is to use the search engine. In the same way as on iPhone, if we look for the name of the contact of the archived chat, the chat will appear in a small window with the text "archived" on one side. If we keep our finger pressed on that window, a tab with several options will appear. Among those options is “Unarchive chat”.
About archived chats
The first thing you need to know is that the contact will have no way of knowing whether or not you have archived their chat. Your relationship with the contact remains exactly the same as before. Besides, if you make a backup copy and keep those chats archived, when restoring the copy to the same or another phone, those chats will remain archived, consequently not they will have disappeared. You will still have them available.
These messages will be kept archived whenever we want, they will not be lost Of course, if the contact writes to us again, the chat will return to history as before. If we want that conversation not to appear in the chat history, we will have to perform the same archiving process again.
What do we get by archiving chats? Apart from giving a cleaner image to our chat history, we can also control which of our conversations are visible to other eyes and which are not If we want to preserve our privacy against possible snoopers, it is a good tool. Also, by doing this, the conversations are kept intact.
As we can see, on Android there are more possibilities to manage archived chats while on iPhone, the system is a little more dynamic when dragging your finger.Still, both modes are quite similar. In short, archiving is a useful and simple way to keep our Whatsapp chat menu organized and clean without losing a single one of our conversations.
