How to Clear Tracks of Where You've Been on Google Maps
Table of contents:
Google has become your inseparable companion. And everything has a price. We download Google applications as useful as Gmail, Google Photos or Maps and we think they are free. But not. We are paying with our personal data, with daily information from the sites we visit and the emails we send. If you do not want your phone to continuously track you, you will need to disable geolocation services. To do this, you just have to go to the settings menu, location and, here, turn off the switch.
But there are those who do not want to stop using GPS continuously. There are services, such as survey bonuses, that require this service. And, at the same time, they don't like the idea that all the sites we visit are saved and stored on our mobile. Furtive glances at our mobile can cause us more than one trick. So we're going to show you how to remove places from Google Maps, both on the web and in the app.
Remove places from Google Maps (web)
To edit certain places that you have visited and have been added to your timeline without you wanting to, you must access the Google Maps web page at www.google.es/maps. Then, carefully follow these simple steps.
- You'll need to sign in with the same Google account on both mobile and web.
- Once you're connected to your Goggle Maps account, click the three-line hamburger menu on the top left of the page.
- Later, look for the section ‘Your timeline‘. Click on it to access the places you have visited during these days.
- Above, choose the day of the month where the place you want to delete is located. You can go back in time by even selecting the desired year. If you want to see all the sites you've been to, simply choose Your sites>visited>all.
- Now, find the place you want to remove from your timeline forever and make it disappear from Google Maps. When you have located it, press the three-dot menu that is located on its right side.
With this simple gesture, the site will have disappeared from the list of places visited that day. Of course, you must take into account that, although it no longer appears on the list, it will continue to appear on the map. If you want to delete the entire day, also deleting the map, you must click on the trash can icon that you will find next to the title of the day, as can be seen in the screenshot superior.
Remove places from Google Maps (Android Application)
If you prefer to manage your timeline directly from the Android application, follow the steps below. Keep your phone close for easier operation.
- Open the Google Maps application on your Android phone. If you don't have it downloaded, it's very simple. You just have to go to its site in the Play Store and download it for free.
- Once you have connected with your Google account, press the three-line hamburger menu that you have located at the top, next to the search bar. Here you will have all the options to configure this map application in detail. Search for ‘Your timeline’, just like we did on the web version.
- Here, we can choose the day that we want to search at the top, in the calendar icon. We can also go back in time and delete that place we should never have visited.
- Once we have located the day, we proceed to look for it in the time line and select it. A new window will open with the site located on the map. Just press the trashcan button and the site will be automatically removed from the list.If you want to delete the entire day, just tap the three-dot menu next to the calendar and select 'Delete day'.
