Outlook or Gmail
Table of contents:
Consulting email has become an almost more common process on mobile phones than on the web. Even the lowest-end phones are prepared to receive and send emails That is why email applications are essential in terminals.
But which one to use? The most common is Gmail, as it is the most used service. However, there are tor a whole legion of hotmail users who are still clinging to their accounts They also have an app to use, Outlook. In this article we are going to compare both apps to see which one makes the task of checking and writing emails easier. We will see its internal options, and to what extent its use can be customized.
Gmail
The Gmail app allows us to easily access a set of Gmail email accounts. Switching from one account to another is simple and intuitive. It is a colorful app, at times excessively colorful, with large and visible icons of the recipients.
Receive Email
When checking the incoming tray, we enter directly into the mailbox known as Principal. There we will have a small link to the social mailbox and promotions. In that menu we can archive messages by sliding to the left or right. By clicking on the message, we can choose if we want to delete it, silence it or mark it as spam
However, if we want to know all our different mailboxes, we must click on the icon with the three lines, in the upper left corner. This will open the start menu.
Once in this menu, we will more easily view all the mailboxes. We have the Main, the Social (social networks) and the Promotions, which are the most general Then, we have the highlights, which are those that we ourselves have decided bookmark, to have on hand. On the other hand, there is the Important mailbox, which are the ones that the app has considered should be read and answered. The vision of the app does not necessarily coincide with ours.
Then we access the draft mailbox, with the messages written but not sent, and the sent mailbox. Finally we arrive at the Spam mailbox and the trashcan In Spam are the messages that the app considers unfit, and in the trashcan, those that you have deleted manually.
Labels
It is the turn of the labels part. Used conscientiously, with the labels we can differentiate in a more concrete way all our messages received Personal, work, travel, receipts... the system offers you 8 labels originally, but then we can customize and add as many as we need. For example, we can add one that is "Family", "Couple", "Friends from work", or any other option.
Settings
After the labels we have the Settings. Upon entering, we arrive at a menu where we can choose some aspects related to our emails. For example, we can adjust our signature, activate or deactivate the automatic response or remove tagsThey also let us decide if we want to receive notifications only with messages from the Main mailbox, all messages, or none.
Compose messages
When writing, we have a circular button with a pencil symbol in the lower right corner. This button will remain fixed while we browse the app, and when we want to write, we can mark it. A new menu will appear, very simple.
Now we have at hand the possibility of including the Carbon Copy, to include more than one sender, or the Blind Carbon Copy, if we do not want those senders to be visible. We also have the clip symbol at hand, with which we can include attachments from our mobile.
When it comes to photos, we can use the gallery or open the camera to take a photo on the spot.If it is about other documents, we are given a link to Google Drive Entering Drive, we can choose the file and it is automatically shared in the mail.
Outlook
Let's now see the Microsoft app. Its interface is cleaner, mostly white, with only some elements highlighted in blue. We have a central menu with two tabs. The first is Priority mail, the second is Others (all other mail). Third, we have a button that allows us to filter the other two trays into unread messages, flagged messages, or messages with attachments.
Apart from this central menu we have, on the one hand, a side menu, designed to manage received mail, and then, a lower menu to access other functions complementary emails.
Lateral Menu
In this menu we keep it simple: the entire menu is white with gray letters, except the mailbox that we select First we have the mailbox entry, which is the main menu, and from there we go to the sent files. Below we have the file, with the messages that we have wanted to save, and then the trash can.
The next thing we have to look at are the drafts and the outbox, with the messages that have been tried to be sent, but due to some problem the message has not yet been sent send Finally, a spam mailbox. As we can see, it is a very simple and intuitive menu, where everything seems quite clear. Of course, there seems to be no tag system.
Bottom menu
In the lower menu we can enter a calendar option, where we can record events and create alarms to remember themAlso a file-only menu, where we are given the option to link to OneDrive. We are also allowed to add Google Drive or Dropbox.
In addition, we see a list of all the attached documents that have been received in the different emails It is a very useful option to have documents by hand. Finally, we also have the Contacts option, where we have all the recipients of messages we have written at hand.
Setting
The last option in the bottom menu is Settings. Marking it, we arrive at a new, quite extensive menu. This is where we can add new Hotmail accounts. We can also manage the notifications that we want to receive.
As in Gmail, we can do that only reach us in case of receiving messages in the priority tray, with all emails, or in no case In addition to this, we can customize a sound each time we send a message, and another each time we receive any message.
Another option is to adjust how we want the app to respond when sliding messages with our finger, both left and right, about a message. We can choose to have it deleted, archived, marked as read, or nothing to happen.
Compose mail
The compose menu is very simple, similar to that of Gmail. It only changes that we have a double lower button, to add files (linking with OneDrive or Google Drive) and photos, or to create events. The event system is synchronized with the calendar.
Regarding written texts, one of the most interesting editions that the Outlook app allows by simply clicking on a word is to add a hyperlink .
Conclusion
In comparison, the Gmail app seems a bit more cluttered than the Outlook app, both in terms of design and options. On the other hand, the Gmail app can be more practical if we use the label system If we don't use it, it's mostly a nuisance.
One of the most interesting elements of the Outlook app is that it is integrated with the calendar, which can help a lot if we use the mail for work matters. Google also has its calendar tool, Google Calendar, but in our test we could not verify that this integration exists, at least not from Gmail.
Google also has its contacts section, but it is separated, in another application, while Microsoft integrates it into the same Outlook app. For all these reasons, we crown Outlook as the mail app that is more complete and simpler than Gmail.
