Applications to learn English there are many, but almost all of them are based on academics. Logical, on the other hand, but as a complement to those, we could use games that reinforce what we have learned, that enrich our vocabulary even more. With 'Just 2 Pics' you'll have to combine words to create different ones, in a mechanism similar to the 'Numbers and letters' contest. It is easier than it seems to be. And, at the same time, more difficult.

Match words using pictures

To download the app 'Just 2 Pics' just go to the Android store. Once downloaded and installed, we will proceed to play for the first time. This is the simple gameplay of ‘Just 2 Pics’.

On the game screen two photos appear. Each photo represents the object that we will have to guess and place in the boxes at the bottom of the game. First we have to discover the first image, selecting the blocks in order of letters. Later, we will add the second image, resulting, with the mixture, a new word.

As you may have guessed, as we progress through the game things get more complicated. And everything will depend on your level of English... Although you can always use extra help. Each time you pass a level, the game will give you coins, which you can exchange for hints These hints are classified into:

• Reveal a letter: 60 coins
• Remove 3 letters: 80 coins
• Discover the first photo: 120 coins
• Reveal Second Photo: 120 Coins
• Skip level: 200 coins

You have a certain amount of time to solve the enigma. At first, the challenges are downright straightforward. Some examples: the photo of the desert (sand) and a witch (witch) result in 'Sandwich'. A photo of an erupting volcano (hot) and a dog (dog) result in 'Hotdog'. But later… For example, at level 22 we have this riddle.

On the left, we see a seed and on the right, some lollipops. We have had to use 60 coins for a clue, because the enigma was already becoming more complicated. As soon as we knew it was the 'C', the word came out on its own. The same happens in the enigma on the right: until we got to 'Lovebird' we had to deliver the odd coin.

Freemium model that exhausts its possibilities

The game is really good. It's a lot of fun and we learn new words. As we said at the beginning, it is a perfect application to combine with others like Memrise. But everything has its downside and, this time, it comes again from the hand of the freemium model.

The freemium model is generally the most viewed on the app store. In principle, the game is free but, later, to get the most out of it, you have to make purchases. Depending on the game, this model can be more or less restrictive. In the case of Just 2 Pics, it can get a bit desperate, due to the difficulty we can reach, once level 20 is surpassed.

In our experience and, after having exhausted the coins, we have stayed at level 24.As we see on the screen, a clock appears with a countdown of two hours. We assume, taking into account similar systems, that the solution will appear once we have exhausted the time and so we can advance screen.

Therefore, Just 2 Pics can be a somewhat frustrating experience if we refuse to pay for coins. Although, by spending a while learning a few words, we won't lose anything.
