Vanity
Table of contents:
We live in a time of talent shows on television, starring artists on the one hand and voice coaches on the other. But not everyone who wants to sing has the opportunity to appear on television. And not everyone has the time or money to hire a singing teacher either. In that gap of people appears Vanido, a special app to help us sing.
The app is only available for the Apple App Store, but they are in the process of offering the Android version soon. In any case, it is a free application that does not include ads or in-app purchases (for now).
First steps
The first thing we are going to have to do is put on a headset with a microphone The application will work through sound patterns that we are going to have to repeat. The app will recognize our intonation, tuning and vocal power and will establish a points system.
The muscles of the mouth and throat have to be trained, and in a certain way singing is like going to the gym If we are constant and we do the right exercises, we can make the easier path to a more defined and professional voice. For this reason, Vanido is going to propose a series of exercises to achieve it.
Once we've got our headphones on, we'll need to give Vanido something to work on. The app will ask us to breathe out saying "aaah" in a tone that we consider normal, relaxed. Then a low tone without effort, and finally the same in a high tone. With this first test, the app will evaluate our vocal range, and will organize the different exercises around that range. If we want to vary the range, we can do it through the app settings.
Voice in the head and voice in the chest
The first exercises will seek to awaken the voice that comes from the head, and the following will seek to evaluate those tones that come from the chest. The program will propose a first melody, and it will play it for us so that we get an idea of the pattern.
Then, when we are ready, the melody will begin to play, over and over again, in different tones, until it covers our vocal range. We will have to be able to follow the tone as well as possible, since each exercise will result in a score. That score will be saved for tracking purposes.
The different updates will offer new exercises that explore more areas of the voice. The first exercises that are available are low-impact, but new additions are already scheduled. As examples, high impact exercises, exercises that swell the chest or vocal exercises that have to do with the movement of our body.
Vocal warm-up
Vocal warm-up is one of the elements where singers are most lost. Therefore, Right now it is the great gap that Vanido has Fortunately, it does not seem that they have been completely forgotten, since the exercise appears in the list of possible ones, only followed by a "coming soon" (available soon). We will wait to see how they develop that warm-up.
Clearly Vanido isn't going to give us talent if we don't have it. Neither is he going to change our vowel. What can help us is to polish our style, to discover the most professional way to control our voice. If the app is regular with the offer of vocal exercises, it can become an essential complement for any lover of music and singing. We highly recommend it to anyone serious about it, professional or not.
