In recent times, moreover, the way of consuming series and movies has changed: from the television we went to the laptop and, from this, to the tablet and mobile. On the bus, on the train, on a long plane trip... Anywhere is good to see the latest episode of our favorite series. Although, for this, we must carry out the process of adding sub titles through third-party applications. For all those who still don't know how to do it, here is our tutorial for today.
How to add sub titles to a movie or series on mobile
To add sub titles to a movie or series on our mobile we will need an application to view the content and another to manage the sub titles. We are going to explain how to do it in the two most used apps to view multimedia on our devices: MX player and VLC.
VLC Player
To download VLC Player totally free you only have to go to the Google application store. Once installed, for now, forget about it. Let's download the sub titles.
Download the sub title
Let's take the 18th episode of the 10th season of The Big Bang Theory as an example. To download it, you will have to go to some of the web pages that offer you this type of file. To make sure you've downloaded the sub title for the episode, look at its name. All those weird names that pop up will be your guide.
Generally, we download sub titles in two types of files: the sub title itself or a compressed file where the sub title is located. If we have downloaded it compressed, we must extract it from our file management application. In general, in the latest Android versions, the phone brings it as a system. If this is not our case, we must download it from the Google app store.
How to locate sub titles on our mobileManage files
As a rule, the files you download go to the 'Download' folder on your device. This folder can be found in the file manager and in a shortcut in the form of an app. We will use the first form. Once you have the file, we are going to copy it and move it to the folder where you have the episode. Long press on the sub title and in the pop-up window, choose 'Copy'. Then, go to the episode location and check 'Paste'.
Now, and this is very important, we are going to rename the two files that the folder contains, the video and the sub title. You can name it whatever you want but, and this is vital, both must be called the same. You must make sure that both have exactly the same name.
Open VLC Player
Let's go to the VLC Player application. As soon as we open it, the screen will appear in which we will choose the file to play.As we saw before, we must go to the 'Download' folder. Once in this folder, we choose the subfolder where the episode is and, to our surprise, we see that only one file appears, that of the episode. It is normal.
Simply, to play it, click on the video file. If we have done everything as indicated and the two files have the same name, the series will be played with the sub titles. If the text does not match the dialog, this means that you have downloaded another version. We remind you that the sub title name must coincide, more or less, with the video file.
For example, if the video has the name 'The.Big.Bang.Theory.S10E18.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION.mkv' you should search for the sub title that has in its name »X264- DIMENSION". To rename the video and sub title files, you must do as we indicated before.
Another way to open sub titles
VLC Player InterfaceOpen the VLC application. Click on the episode that is currently playing. You will see a menu with several sections emerge. Click on the sandwich icon, which appears second from the left. In the pop-up window, you must check 'Select sub title'. A window will open where you must search for the corresponding sub title. This option is useful if you have forgotten to save the file in the same folder as the episode.
MX Player
For less experienced users, from here we recommend using VLC Player because it usually works with any type of file that we download, regardless of its video and audio codecs. If you still prefer MX Player, we are going to teach you how to play sub titles in your episodes.
The way to add sub titles to a series with MX Player is the same. Download the sub title, copy and paste it into the video folder and name the two files the same name. Once you have it, let's go to the application.
As soon as you open MX Player the 'Downloads' folder will open. Here should be everything you download on your mobile. Search for the episode and you'll see a small thumbnail of it with 'SRT' next to it. This means that the episode has an embedded sub title. You just have to press the video and it will play automatically with the embedded sub title. It's that easy.
MX Player sub menuOnline sub titles
There is also another way to add sub titles in MX Player, even if you haven't downloaded them previously. To do this, play the episode or movie. Meanwhile, click on the video once and access the three-dot menu located in the upper right corner.Click where it says 'Sub titles' and then 'Online Sub titles'. If you press 'Search', a screen will open where you can make the application search for the file for you. Check the box 'Enter your search' and, automatically, the full title of the series or movie will be added.
