Messenger Day
Table of contents:
For some time now, Facebook has been trying to copy Snapchat from start to finish. First, applying ephemeral stories to Instagram. Later, adding them to Facebook itself. Finally, it has even put them in WhatsApp, which, honestly, makes little sense, considering that it is a messaging app. Well, there was still an app from the Zuckerberg ecosystem: Messenger Day: stories on Messenger.
More stories… On Facebook Messenger
As we have learned through the official Facebook blog, Messenger, its messaging application for Facebook contacts, also has stories: Messenger Day. That chronology of video events to which we add emojis, stickers, text and that disappear after 24 hours. Did we need ephemeral stories in Messenger? No. Are we going to use them? Well at first yes, sure. Even if it's the first couple of days. We already see that WhatsApp states have not exactly been a success.
At the end of the year, Messenger launched a new camera, much more powerful and with more features. Conversations were enriched with frames, filters, drawings, stickers, emojis... Practically any decoration that could be thought of was there waiting to be used. They have even launched special labels depending on the holiday: Christmas, Valentine's Day, carnivals… More and more decorations that have left behind the previously almighty Snapchat.
There is nothing new under the sun with this flash stories feature in Messenger Day It works exactly the same as in the rest of applications: you make a video or record a photo, add everything you want and add it to your timeline. The rest of the users (or those that you choose) will be able to see it for a whole day, disappearing forever afterwards.
So starting today you can use Messenger Day when you sign in to the Messenger app.
How Messenger Day works
- Messenger Day's interface is exactly the same as Instagram or Facebook. A reel of thumbnails where we can see who the stories belong to.
- Open the Messenger application. Click on the camera icon, which will appear with a sun-shaped icon when the stories are launched. Just do it as usual: press to take photos or hold for a video.
- To add stickers and emojis, tap the smiley icon at the top right of the screen. If you want to add text, just press the one next to it, with the letters Aa. If you want to draw on the image, choose the zig zag line icon.
- Once you have your work of art, you can send it to your day by pressing the arrow at the bottom right of the screen. Here, you can also send it to your gallery, to a person or group from your calendar or to your timeline.
- You can also add photos and videos to your day while chatting with friends or groups. Simply press the button «+ Add to your day» and it will automatically be included in your timeline. Also, you'll be able to see if the friend you're talking to at the moment has news on their day.
Privacy in the days of Messenger Day
It is clear that the stories of the day can be shared with whoever you want. You can show your stories to everyone, with “everyone except” or choose the other option »Custom» If you want to delete any of your stories, you just have to tap on the three-dot menu for that story and select »Delete».
Now, all we have to do is wait until we have Messeger Day on our mobiles in order to use it. Will they be more successful than with Facebook stories or the new WhatsApp statuses?
