Niantic, the developer of Pokémon GO, follow trying to rescue the video game while usage figures plummet. And it seems that in February, after months of waiting, we will finally be able to enjoy the second generation of Pokémon on mobile.
New Pokémon are coming to Pokémon GO for Valentine's Day
The incorporation of the Pokémon of the second generation has been from the beginning one of the main demands of the users. However, Pokémon GO has been making pretty slow progress in this regard, and new characters won't arrive until February.
A few weeks ago, Niantic introduced an update that made it possible to get Generation 2 Pokémon, but only through Eggs. Users have been asking for months for the possibility of hunting these new Pokémon to arrive as normal, on the street or in parks.
The latest official news confirms that the new characters will be available in this mode in February, possibly for Valentine's Day (ie the 14th).
The new update would add to the long list of new features that Niantic in recent months: improvements to the radar and rewards daily are some of the changes that have managed to keep a small group of loyal players hooked.
However, it seems that the second generation of Pokémon may be too late: In-app purchase and usage data onPokémon GO continues to plummet and updates and improvements don't seem to be fixing the situation.
Pokémon GO will have a special event for Valentine's Day
Another novelty with which Pokémon GO has tried to attract more users and keep the ones it has left is the organization of events specials. On certain days or periods, Niantic takes advantage of special holidays to offer more gifts or special catches, such as Pikachus with Santa Hats Noel in December.
Following this trend, Niantic will launch special news to celebrate Valentine's Day from the app. Generation 2 Pokémon are expected to be available by February 14 and the game will have limited options or rewards for several days.
Why are Nintendo mobile games so ephemeral?
Pokémon GO arrived on mobile in the summer of 2016 and had unprecedented success during the first weeks: it swept the number of users and raised large sums of money through in-app purchases.
However, players seem to have lost interest over time: it may be a loss of novelty effect or lack of motivation to continuebecause there isn't as much variety of Pokémon and it becomes increasingly difficult to progress and beat other players in gyms.
As we have already mentioned, Niantic continues to strive to keep users loyal with constant news, but it seems that the great saga of Nintendo is not going to sustain its long-term success on smartphones.
Something similar has happened with Super Mario Run, an application that promised to be a real gem for lovers of Nintendo It went on sale in the app store of iOS at a price that many consider quite high (around 10 euros), and soon after sales plummeted
Users of Super Mario Run agree that it is not worth paying so much for an application that does not meet the expectations generated.
