This is the Google app to locate the closest people
Google continues to make our lives easier. In this case, he wants us to feel safe wherever we go, to know that we are protected by our loved ones in case of having an emergency, or when we travel to places that are not highly recommended. To do this, it has just launched the Trusted Contacts application, with which you can share your geolocation with certain selected contacts at any time.
The application Trusted Contacts works as follows: once you have downloaded it from this link you will be asked to add to a series of contacts that you consider extremely trustworthy, whether they are friends or family. These contacts will be able to see your location whenever you allow it, in case you feel you might be at some risk. If, for whatever reason, your chosen contacts want to see where you are, they may request your location. If you're okay, you can cancel the request. If you haven't given any signs of life in five minutes the application will automatically send that contact the exact location where you are so they can take the appropriate measures.
The Google blog explains in more detail how this new service works, taking as an example a couple of a boy and a woman girl named Elliot and Thelma. While Elliot is out for a walk, he meets Thelma for coffee later. Suddenly, the boy realizes that he is lost and, on top of that, he has run out of coverage. When Thelma has been waiting in the cafeteria for a while and Elliot shows no sign of life, she begins to worry. That's when the girl asks Elliot for the address and, five minutes later, he receives it: the young man is in the middle of a narrow mountain pass. He then calls the nearest police station and, quickly, a rescue team goes in search of him.
This example may be a bit extreme, but it reflects very well what this application is capable of doing. The following, also offered by the Google blog,is much more suited to our daily lives: when we are alone, at night, in the city.
Elliot has to stay late at the office. It's already late night. He pulls out his phone, opens the app and shares his location with his friend Thelma. From then on, Thelma will »accompany» Elliot until he gets home. Simply, she will have to stop sharing her location. As we can see, this example is going to give a lot of play to those parents who are afraid that their children will go down the street alone. In Trusted contacts you will have a great ally.
This application uses geolocation to make us feel more secure, a much more beneficial use than other privacy intrusions to which we have attended If you ever go down the street and don't feel safe, or need to accompany, even virtually, that friend who isn't having a good time, download the application and start to feel a little safer.
