During the last few weeks we have experienced infinite leaks of our passwords. A hacker has now sold thousands of accounts LinkedIn containing our email and password, but recently also suffered a security breach Google, Microsoft and YahooThis is how passwords seem to be having the worst moment in history, becoming a black spot in technology, they could be doomed to disappear.
Google has been working on eliminating passwords for some time, and in fact has a project created for it: Abacus An initiative by which they will try to change our passwords for a rating system of our patterns of behavior or our own location.
It should be remembered that normally the logins have a system in which we identify ourselves in two steps, in addition to the classic username and password we are usually asked for something else. For example, it may be a key that is sent to our mobile phone. But this could be relieved by the Project Abacus that Google is preparing, which they have recently named Trust API and which could reach application developers at the end of the year , if the tests in the financial entities are satisfactory.
What is Project Abacus (now called Trust API)?
Project Abacus has evolved, and at Google I/O they have presented it under the name of Trust API. The intention is the one that we mentioned previously, forget about passwords since it will value other types of actions such as identification. A technology that is not unknown to Android, since it has been used in Smartlock. What it will do is identify us according to various patterns, from our location, face, voice, fingerprint or the way we write Through Intelligence Artificial will certify that it is us and not another person, thus creating an authenticity profile.
As we are using our phone, it will be taking information through the sensors, creating a profile with a score. So to access an application, we will have to certify a minimum score. For example, if we want to access the bank account, it would surely request our face information and also the fingerprint.
It is expected that in June begins to be tested with various financial institutions, and if everything is satisfactory, Google's intention is that by the end of the year, developers will have the Trust API to implement it in their applications. So in not too long we could enjoy a system without passwords on our smartphones.
It should be remembered that Android has a technology called Smartlock, which unlocks the terminal when it is in a certain location (for example, the WiFi of our house), or recognizing our face, fingerprint and others. Now the Trust API will go even further, collecting information for what they create the Trust Score for.
