WhatsApp will improve the security of your conversations with QR codes
The most widely used messaging application in the world continues to search for new formulas with which to satisfy its users. Something that has been demonstrated in recent months with constant updates that have added functions such as favorite messages , and with leaks such as the possible introduction of document submission. Now new information indicates that WhatsApp is working on improving security, or at least , in reassuring users who are more concerned about knowing if their conversations are being spied on.
The new information comes through the WhatsApp translation service, in which the users themselves participate voluntarily choosing the best translation of the phrases, functions and buttons that are added to this application. A service that has already revealed other functions before they arrived in the application, and that continues to offer clues about the direction of WhatsApp regarding security after theprevious leak, where a new system was shown to know if a chat was being spied on. Something that is now completed with QR codes to facilitate this mission.
This is a couple of lines in English added to the translation service that directly reference the new functionality of identity verification This would consist of ensuring that you are speaking with a specific contact, without there being espionage or leaksof any kind within the chat.So far, thanks to the information that had transpired, we knew that this feature could be checked through the contact information screen when activating this feature in the menu Settings Now it is shown that the identification process will be carried out by scanning a QR code
The key is to display a QR code on a contact's phone that can be scanned by the user himself A measure that forces both to be present in the same place and at the same time. With this, the user can scan that QR code of another contact, or vice versa, so that the messaging system can verify that the encryption or codification of the messages is really secure and that, therefore, there is no type of security or privacy problem
This does not necessarily translate into more security through chats, but it does help users You can rest easy and know that the messages sent or received through said conversation are not compromised. Something that is somewhat reminiscent of the secure chats of Telegram in its early days, where a code allowed user-to-user encryption to be established. A security barrier that WhatsApp already has and that, in theory, leaves the company itself and anyout of chats hacker or spy
At the moment this function has only reached the translation system of WhatsApp, without this confirming that it will actually reach their applications, or going to do it soon. However, it is something they are working on and it could come in future updates. So we will have to wait to see if WhatsApp continues to invest in privacy and the peace of mind of its users.
