Android M will allow you to manage app permissions
The rumors were already announcing it, but it was during the event Google I/O for developers when confirmed. And it is that the next version of the operating system Android will bring with it, once again, the management of application permissions That is, knowing what each of the applications that are installed in the terminal can do, but also block those functions that you do not want to useSomething that could significantly change the way some tools are used, or even how terminals work.
As introduced today, permissions will change back to Android M, the working name for the next version of this operating system. And it is that Google wants to make them simpler and more comfortable for all users. Therefore they will be grouped into large groups such as Location, Camera, Mic, Contacts and few more categories that refer to specific characteristics of the device. The curious thing is that these permissions will not only be displayed when installing the application, a key moment to know what you will have access to, but also will remind the user the first time they use it
During the presentation, the messaging application WhatsApp served as an example to show this new operation. After being installed and accessing a conversation, the first time you click on the microphone icon to record a voice message a new message appears. This is the permission requested by the application to use that feature of the smartphone, being able to accept and record the voice message , or deny permission and prevent that app from accessing the microphone
With this, the use of many applications could change, being the user who effectively decides if they want to record their location, have an application that can collect photos from your gallery or even tools that connect to the Internet, among many other issues.Issue that would be closely related to other basic concepts of the terminal such as memory RAM or battery , which could give more if the user manages all their installed applications in detail.
And precisely for management, Android M will include a new menu of Permissions inside Settings A place where you can see which apps have what permissions, or check each one individually. But there is still more. Within each section the user can see all these permissions and activate or deactivate them effectively and at will A very detailed management that will allow you to get the most out of the terminal and limit the access of the applications according to how the user wants to use them and the information that he wants to assign for their use.
At the moment only a few details have been seen about this new permissions management, without knowing to what extent they may affect the operation of the applications. However, during the presentation they clarified that developers will not have to carry out extra work on their applications. We will have to wait, then, to see how permission management revolutionizes the platform or not Android
