The origin of the American company Apple dates back to 1976, so we are dealing with a company that hides almost 40 years of history behind it. All these years give for many curiosities, and of course not all the designs and sketches of the workers of the company of the bitten apple have come to be realized. In this article we are going to take a look at the most curious designs that, luckily or unfortunately, have never made it to the shelves of electronics stores.
This compilation of ten curious Apple designs that never saw the light mainly includes prototypes of smartphones and tablets, although we have also included other additional product curiosities that will not leave anyone indifferent. We go there with this journey through time in the form of an article accompanied by detailed images of each electronic device.
10 curious Apple designs that never saw the light of day
1. - The mobile without a screen
One of the first compact mobile concepts from Apple was this curious terminal in which the first thing that stands out is the absence of the screen. This Apple Phone was perhaps only a prototype of what this manufacturer was able to achieve if it intended to develop a mobile in a market in which the concept of a smartphone did not yet exist.
2. - A landline phone with a design… very fixed
This prototype landline phone does not seem to correspond to what anyone would associate with a comfortable and manageable phone. Luckily for its future, Apple seems to have thought twice before entering the landline market with this prototype.
3. - Apple already glimpsed the success of smart watches with this prototype
This bracelet accompanied by headphones was intended to offer the possibility of talking to other people using the bracelet as if it were the keyboard of a mobile phone. The idea really seemed interesting, but probably very few users would have liked to always have to carry those headphones.
Today we could define this prototype as the predecessor of smart watches, although it is to be assumed that other competing manufacturers also produced similar prototypes.
4. - EarPods shaped cables
Any Apple user can recognize at first glance the characteristic EarPods headphones that are included with the products of this manufacturer. The prototype that we are seeing includes the same form of those headphones with the peculiarity that we are facing simple connector cables.
5. - One of the first iPad designs
This curious prototype of an Apple tablet shows a product with the usual characteristics of the technology of yesteryear: very wide edges, great thickness and very simple design. What is really curious lies in the digital pen that Apple had thought that users would use to handle this tablet, since it rather looks like a scalpel similar to those used in the medical field.
6. - A support to give more utility to the tablet
The previous tablet prototype, in the case of becoming a reality, could also have been accompanied by a support that included both a keyboard and an additional power source. The idea was really curious since it was an alternative that could have competed against the concept of the laptop.
7. - One of the first concepts of the popular Mac
These prototypes show us that Apple always had very much in mind the objective of launching a personal computer that incorporated all its components into the same structure.
8. - A prototype of the popular Mac
Apple's personal computer could also have been born with this peculiar design. The display was built directly into the design of the computer, and could be tilted to provide an ideal viewing angle for working with the computer on a desk.
9. - Another Mac concept, this time with a separate keyboard
10. - The MacBook Pro also had its first prototypes
This curious design of the MacBook Pro is very similar to what we identify today as a laptop, although it includes an important detail… there is no keyboard! Or perhaps it is hidden under that strange cover that seems to protect the space where the keyboard should be housed.
Although the descriptions that accompany these prototypes are not as complete as a fan of technology would like, the truth is that we are dealing with prototypes about which there is very little accurate information beyond what we can see in the images. After all, Apple probably would not like to provide all the information regarding its first investigations. This article should simply help us to take a little trip back in time looking at the concepts of the future that the big manufacturers had at that time.
